Writing your own eulogy

A friend of mine recently challenged me to write my own eulogy.  I know, it sounds more than a little morbid, but it’s actually a really great way to capture your values and life-goals in a brief few statements.  I found it to be a remarkably focusing exercise.  Here is the finished product:

Nick Duffel, beloved husband and father, is gone but not forgotten.  Nick was a pastor who impacted countless lives by being an influencer of influencers, but he left no doubt that he regarded his family as his primary ministry.  He didn’t seek recognition, but he is recognized nonetheless for being a man who loved his wife, Beth, with unwavering devotion.  His three boys will remember him as the one who taught them that being a real man means courageously following the Lord Jesus wherever He may lead.  Although he will be missed, we know he is hearing his Lord say, “Well done, good and faithful servant;” his life being Christ, and his death being gain.

Now, go write your own eulogy!
