Boredom and the Bible

How dare we make the Bible boring!  How dare we make it boring because it’s not boring.  Not even a little bit.

Yes, it’s a little confusing sometimes, and some of the genealogies seem a bit irrelevant.  But if the Bible comes across as boring, it’s because we make it so; we preachers, teachers, church leaders, and scholars.

No more.

If the Bible has really changed us; if it has shown us the Father, lead us to the Son, and become to us the sword of the Spirit, we must not make the Bible boring.  We must let all the passion and reverence we feel for the Bible be known as we read, preach, and teach.

That is, unless we don’t have passion and reverence for the Bible.  If that’s the case, we’re dealing with a whole different issue, and we need to remember the words of David in Psalm 19:

The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living.
Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever.
The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair.
They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold.
They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.
They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.

If the Word of God has really changed us, can people tell when we read it?  It is that obvious?
