Thoughts on being proactive

Most of these ideas and quotes are from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey.  Required reading for leaders.  Obviously.

Liberty is more options to choose from in your environment.  Freedom is more internal power to exercise your options.

“Our behavior is a function of our decisions, not our condition.”

“We can subordinate feelings to values.”

“We have the initiative and the responsibility to make things happen.”

“Taking initiative does not mean being pushy, obnoxious, or aggressive.”

Responsibility = “response-ability”

Taking the initiative makes all the difference in the world.

Choosing to be reactive = choosing to empower certain things to control us

Reactive people are affected by the “social weather.”

Love is a verb.  Reactive people make it a feeling.

Developing convincing presentations is “solution selling”

Use your resourcefulness and initiative instead taking an irresponsible position and waiting for someone else to make things happen and provide a solution.

The difference between positive thinking and proactivity is the latter is always in touch with reality.

“It is inspiring to realize that in choosing our response to circumstance, we powerfully affect our circumstance.”

If we focus on things we have no influence over the negative energy we generate as well as the neglect for more important areas causes our circle of influence to shrink.

“Proactive people aren’t pushy.  They’re smart, they’re value driven, they read reality, and they know what’s needed.”

“Not to acknowledge a mistake, not to correct it and learn from it, is a mistake of a different order.”  It involves self-deception.
